The objective of this project was to make a piece that incooperated the use of either a transfered text or number to send a message through it. The piece also had to include an overall theme and had to execute that theme through the transfered media.
For this project, Cheslyn and I decided to collaborate, and we created a piece that revolved around the theme of misconceptions of beauty that is also inspired by artist Mary Anne Hawthorne. This piece features a young anorexic woman with antelope antlers and ears. The reason as to why we decided to choose an anthro is because antelopes are a known symbol of beauty and elegance. The anorexia that she is given shows the mislead image of beauty with is seen as slim and thin, to the point of malnutrition. There is a standard definition of beauty transferred on a separate piece of paper and placed over the woman's chest to show modesty. In addition there are black and white flowers colored with chalk pastel over her genetilia to also show modesty. Words were transfered and pasted onto a large sheet of line paper and layed onto the base paper to give a feel as if it were placed in a notebook, which is similar to Hawthorne's works. Kingfishers are perched throughout the piece; on the definition, a strand of hair, and her antlers. Although not visible in the picture, hot glue is webbed and placed onto the places such as her antlers and her eyes to mimic tears and raindrops to show a lax sadness.
