For this project, we collaborated with Ms. Strasser's 6th period Creative Writing class in order to create a comic book. Cheslyn and I paired up together to create the artwork, along with Christy, who was our writer.
Our story revolves around Airi, a young teenage princess in Japan who feels rejected by her parents due to her tomboyish personality. One night, she leaves the palace disguised in men's clothes after she bickers with her parents. She rides her horse into the forest in order to calm herself, however, she encounters a group of men on horses. Unaware of the fact that she is actually a girl, the leader of the clan asks if there is a palace nearby where they could rest. Airi answers them and the clan leaves on their horses.
About an hour later, Airi returns home from her outing and discovers that her family's palace has been destroyed. Immediately, she runs inside the palace, frantically searching for her parents. She searches each room, and when she reaches her parents' bedroom, rather than finding her parents, she finds her sister, Kurumi, on the floor completely covered in blood.
These first two scenes that are in color represent the scene where Airi finds Kurumi on the floor. During this scene, Kurumi explains to her sister that bandits came into the palace and slaughtered everyone because they were searching for the princess, which was Airi. In the last panel of the second page, there is a note. This note was supposed to be given to Airi by her parents during her "celebration of coming of age" party, which would be held a couple of days in the near future. However, her parents die, and her sister dies as well, leaving Airi all alone at the end of the story.
These first two scenes are first and the only two pages in color because this scene represents a flashback.
